Michelle S Hirsch, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Hirsch is board certified in Anatomic Pathology and is a practicing Surgical Pathologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). Dr. Hirsch received both her MD and her PhD (in Anatomy and Cell Biology) from Boston University School of Medicine. She completed her residency and fellowship training in Genitourinary (GU) and Women’s and Perinatal (GYN) Pathology at BWH prior to joining the staff at BWH in 2004; she has been the Chief of the GU Pathology Division since 2010. Her daily clinical and educational responsibilities are centered around GU and GYN pathology and she places a large emphasis on diagnostic pearls and clinic-pathologic correlation. Her primary research interests include diagnostic biomarker and genetic evaluation in subtyping renal tumors. Dr. Hirsch has published ~200 peer reviewed articles, reviews, editorials, and chapters, and previously edited a GU pathology edition of Surgical Pathology Clinics<\/em> which addressed GU pathology diagnostics and clinicopathologic correlation. Dr. Hirsch is an active member of the USCAP; she was a prior member of the USCAP Education Committee, she has given multiple USCAP related presentations (evening specialty conferences, short courses and interactive microscopy courses). Dr. Hirsch has participated in multiple ISUP consensus meetings, chaired\/moderated the ISUP Companion Meeting for 3 years, and was previously a member of the ISUP Stipend Award Review Committee. Dr. Hirsch was also prior President of the New England Society of Pathologists and is on the editorial board for multiple pathology journals.
